Since the last couple of sample wardrobe posts were all tailored to the summer season, I thought it would be a good idea to start off the September with a fall edition of the 20 pieces/ 20 outfits series. As outlined in Fall Wardrobe Updates: The Complete Guide, preparing your wardrobe for the fall season not only involves a good deal of maintenance (repairs, replacements, etc), but also some re-inventing, utilizing the full range of textures, fabrics and colours that fall/winter fashion has to offer and perhaps finding a fresh way to interpret your overall style concept. For example, I like clean silhouettes all year round and light pastel shades during the warmer months, but in fall and winter I prefer a richer, darker colour palette, thicker materials and a greater variety of textures.

For this sample wardrobe, I worked with a colour scheme based on blues, black and burgundy, mixed in with a little sand, stripes and leopard print. Like in the last 20/20 post, I included four pairs of shoes and more tops than bottoms.

This wardrobe matches the criteria of a modular wardrobe: it is based on a defined colour scheme and you can wear almost every top with every bottom. The modular approach is my favourite way to build a small, but versatile wardrobe because it fits my preferred oufit-building technique. Of course you could also use a different approach, for example the basics/statement pieces method.

What do you think of my selection? How would you go about building your wardrobe, if you could only have 20 pieces?
